Black Tie Formal
Our celebration is a formal evening affair. Think classic, elegant, and timeless: the kind of dressing that photographs beautifully at every hour.
Gentlemen
Black suit or tuxedo
- A black suit or tuxedo with a white dress shirt is the standard.
- A black or ivory dress shirt is a welcome alternative.
- Patent or well-polished black dress shoes.
Ladies
Floor-length gown
- Floor-length gowns.
- Dresses should be black. Design elements are very welcome: sparkle, ruffles, texture.
- The grounds include grass and pavers, so a block heel or wedge is kind to your feet. A nice flat is welcome for the reception.
A few notes
August in Michigan
- Late August in Michigan is warm by day and comfortable by evening.
- The ceremony and cocktail hour are outdoors, so bring a light layer if you run cold.
- Please keep any layer in step with the dress code: a black wrap, shawl, or jacket rather than something casual.
